Granite Kitchen Sinks

Strong and Long-Lasting Granite Sinks

We are very familiar with granite countertops because of their natural beauty and strength. Nowadays, granite is also being used to make granite kitchen sinks.

They are very appropriate for most modern kitchen designs. Kitchen sinks made of granite are not as noisy as metal sinks (such as stainless steel and copper sinks) since they are basically made of solid stone. Yet they are also very easy to clean and maintain just like any other metal sink. These types of sinks are brawny, bold, earthy and elegant. Since they are made of granite, they will exude that air of elegance even for many years to come. They are an excellent alternative to traditional kitchens sinks.

There are basically two classes of granite kitchen sinks – the solid stone granite sink and the composite granite sink. The first one can be carved-out of a single piece of granite stone or it can also be assembled using several pieces of granite stone. Composite granite sinks on the other hand are made of a combination of different materials with granite as the base material. Due to its composite nature, this type of granite sink is more versatile than the first one. The composite compound is usually granite powder mixed with an epoxy of resin. Composite granite kitchen sinks are basically 80% granite and they are equally strong as the solid stone granite sinks.

Different Styles and Designs
As in all types of materials, granite kitchen sinks are also available in various styles and designs. Below are some of the most common styles and designs.
• Single Bowl – standard style single sinks, although some are like standard farmer’s sink where the whole front side is open which makes the granite sink look very attractive. There are variations like one side is raised as in a sloping manner to allow water to flow downwards to the drain. The length of this single sink is typically longer.
• Double Bowl – two similarly sized sinks in one assembly, or two dissimilar sinks with one larger than the other. One sink would be used for dishwashing and the other for garbage disposal. They would typically have elegantly bent sides to make them more stylish. The bowls can also have similar depths or one can be deeper than the other. The bowl depths usually range from 5” to 12”.
• Under mount – this is the typical placement of granite kitchen sinks in kitchen countertops. There is no rim in these sinks therefore food wastes is just wiped down into the sink. This installation also makes for excellent functionality and sophisticated appearance.
